Farr Collective is an interdisciplinary design practice by Aria Safar focusing on Futurism, design, and community.
For Aria, Futurism as a practice means moving beyond the paradigms of the present to imagine better (non-dystopian) alternative realities driven by social and technological evolutions. Aria’s bicultural upbringing allows him to identify and graft opportunities from one industry or culture to another—facilitating those evolutionary leaps. In building community and spaces for community, Aria brings in-person interaction to a higher level of engagement; reducing small talk and increasing meaningful engagement to imagine those futures. To do this, Aria pulls on the hospitality of his Southwest Asian and North Africana (SWANA) heritage, and frank and forward discussions, without any love lost between participants. At the same time, principles of low-fuss, and easily accessible gatherings and communication lower the barrier to connection. In graphic design, Farr Collective combines cultural motifs from the SWANA region with contemporary influences that focus on clean lines, minimal ornamentation, and muted tones. This aesthetic and philosophy comes from Aria’s growing up in diaspora in the West; feeling the closeness to his Iranian heritage, and pulling inspiration from his contemporaries in Tehran, Beirut, and Los Angeles.
